\"\"Guant\u00e1namo \u2013 Following Hurricane Melissa, 135 retail outlets were opened in Guant\u00e1namo to ensure food sales and assistance to the affected population. F\u00e9lix Javier Rodr\u00edguez Dranguet, Director of Gastronomy, reported that 126 of these units are of\u00a0 Commerce, and nine are food centers. In addition, 12 mobile tents are distributed across the 10 People’s Councils of the provincial capital.<\/p>\n

According to an article published in the newspaper Venceremos on November 3rd, a total of 33 establishments are providing direct services in Guant\u00e1namo, including 12 lodging facilities and 19 retail outlets, which are currently assisting evacuees and residents in vulnerable areas.<\/p>\n

The available products include fast-food items and high-demand foods such as soup, croquettes, various rice dishes, root vegetables, soft drinks, wine, vinegar, rum, and sweets.<\/p>\n

The distribution of the subsidized food basket and special food programs has been updated, with the distribution of 2 pounds of rice per person for the month of August already underway. Additionally, the World Food Programme (WFP) is providing rations for pregnant women and vulnerable individuals.<\/p>\n

Milk distribution for October is being carried out in stages: 20 days for children aged 0 to 2 years and 10 days for children aged 2 to 6 years. Pregnant women receive 1.5 kg of powdered milk, and powdered milk for medical diets is guaranteed. An additional 8 days of powdered milk will be allocated for children aged 1 to 2 years through a WFP donation for November.<\/p>\n

The distribution process also includes the municipalities of Mais\u00ed, Im\u00edas, El Salvador, Niceto P\u00e9rez, and Guant\u00e1namo. Rafael Jim\u00e9nez Mart\u00ednez, from the Business Group of Commerce, highlighted that the basic food basket was protected thanks to the efficient evacuation of stored food, which helped preserve reserves in the face of the hurricane’s heavy rains.<\/p>\n
