\"\"Guant\u00e1namo \u2013 The President of the Provincial Defense Council, Yoel P\u00e9rez Garc\u00eda, is overseeing the distribution of subsidized food baskets by helicopter to communities previously isolated by land in the municipalities of El Salvador and Niceto P\u00e9rez, following the impact of Hurricane Melissa in eastern Cuba.<\/p>\n

The mountain communities of San Fernando, in El Salvador, as well as Casimba de Filipinas and Maca Arriba, in Niceto P\u00e9rez, are receiving shipments of rice, flour for bread, beans, and World Food Programme (WFP) food kits containing oil, sugar, rice, and beans.<\/p>\n

Residents who were visited before Hurricane Melissa to assess their preparedness for the impending storm are now benefiting.<\/p>\n

The highest authority of the Provincial Defense Council also toured the district of Reparto Obrero, one of the hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa.
