{"id":14985,"date":"2026-02-03T12:49:41","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T17:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/?p=14985"},"modified":"2026-02-03T14:22:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T19:22:06","slug":"commemorating-the-67th-anniversary-of-fidels-first-visit-to-guantanamo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/commemorating-the-67th-anniversary-of-fidels-first-visit-to-guantanamo\/","title":{"rendered":"Commemorating the 67th Anniversary of Fidel&#8217;s First Visit to Guantanamo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14986\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/visita-de-Fidel-a-Guantanamo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/visita-de-Fidel-a-Guantanamo-2.jpg 1040w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/visita-de-Fidel-a-Guantanamo-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/visita-de-Fidel-a-Guantanamo-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/visita-de-Fidel-a-Guantanamo-2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1040px) 100vw, 1040px\" \/>Guant\u00e1namo \u2013 A heartfelt tribute to the life, work, and legacy of our eternal Commander Fidel Castro Ruz was paid by different generations of Guant\u00e1namo residents during the ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of his first visit to the territory on February 3, 1959.<\/p>\n<p>The commemoration was led by Yoel P\u00e9rez Garc\u00eda, First Secretary of the Party, Carlos Mart\u00ednez Turro, Vice Governor, and other party and government officials, as well as representatives of political and mass organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Juan Angel Maceo Cos, a student leader, speaking on behalf of the younger generation, highlighted Fidel&#8217;s first speech in Guant\u00e1namo, in which he stated that he came not as a ruler but as a revolutionary, and that the Revolution came to power not for a group of men to govern, but for the people to rule.<\/p>\n<p>In his address, the youth representative in this eastern region condemned the criminal U.S. blockade against Cuba, which, coincidentally, was decreed on February 3, 1962.<\/p>\n<p>He then called for strengthening unity, loyalty, discipline, and quality on all fronts to maintain our achievements.<\/p>\n<p>As part of his initial visit, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution visited several of the city&#8217;s main thoroughfares and was cheered by an excited and vibrant crowd.<\/p>\n<p>The event took place in the city&#8217;s historic heart, in front of 24 de Febrero Park, formerly known as Plaza de Armas Isabel Segundo, located on the same site where the town of Guant\u00e1namo was founded in 1871, and where, on August 8, 1898, the people of Guant\u00e1namo cheered the triumphant entry into the city of the Mamb\u00ed troops under Major General Pedro Agust\u00edn P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpermalink.php%3Fstory_fbid%3Dpfbid08RLtxzLLJg26Kb93VjsYsLUqH4YC3EWBpBsza7Acpwk73H3AGguosxQx9MGLyaMvl%26id%3D100062996603150&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guant\u00e1namo \u2013 A heartfelt tribute to the life, work, and legacy of our eternal Commander Fidel Castro Ruz was paid by different generations of Guant\u00e1namo residents during the ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of his first visit to the territory on February 3, 1959.
