Guantanamo.- Reinforcing the condemnation of the blockade, the energy siege, and the hostility of the United States against Cuba was the call issued by Fernando Gonz\u00e1lez Llort, President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), as he expressed his gratitude on Sunday \u2014 via a virtual message \u2013for the support provided by an international solidarity conference advocating for the normalization of relations between the two nations, held in New York City.<\/p>\n
Fernando, one of the Cuban Five \u2014 freed after serving long years of unjust sentences in the U.S. \u2014 noted that the gathering is taking place at a moment of grave danger, as \u201can attempt is being made to impose a new form of domination inspired by the Monroe Doctrine, disregarding the will of the peoples and the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
He denounced the fact that Cuba is suffering an unprecedented intensification of economic warfare, asserting that resource limitations, financial shortages, and energy deficits are the direct result of the inhumane policies of the United States government.<\/p>\n
Fernando Gonz\u00e1lez expressed the view that, under current circumstances, international solidarity serves as a shield\u2014and that solidarity emerging from within the United States itself is of incalculable value. He urged the development of a concrete plan of action to mobilize support with greater force than ever before, effectively coordinating every individual initiative.<\/p>\n
The Cuban hero reiterated his gratitude to the Conference and concluded his remarks by affirming: \u201cWith the backing of the international solidarity movement and the infinite resilience of the Cuban people, we will prevail\u2014for we possess truth, history, and dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The forum concluded on Sunday with remarks \u2014 delivered either virtually or in person \u2014 by activists; members of social and political organizations; representatives of Cuba solidarity networks in the United States, Canada, and Quebec; and individuals who personally support Cuba\u2019s right to self-determination. They were joined by representatives from the Cuban diplomatic corps, ICAP, the FMC (Federation of Cuban Women), the National Union of Jurists, and Cubapetr\u00f3leo.<\/p>\n
Convened by the Coalition of the International Conference for the Normalization of U.S.-Cuba Relations, these meetings began in 2017 with a broad base of participation, in rejection of the hostility and the blockade against Cuba, as well as its inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n
