Guantanamo.- As May 17th, National Farmers’ Day is coming that also mark the 65th anniversary of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), members are gearing up to celebrate. They\u2019re focusing on their renewed commitment to defending the nation and boosting food production.<\/p>\n
On May 17th, the municipality of Niceto P\u00e9rez, in Guantamo Province will host a provincial event on occasion of the 80th anniversary of the brutal assassination of Niceto P\u00e9rez Garc\u00eda, a Cuban peasant and leader of the campesino movement, who was killed that date in the year 1946\u00a0in the\u00a0realengo<\/em>\u00a0(land grant) of\u00a0El V\u00ednculo. <\/strong>He stood up to powerful landowners back in the day to defend his land rights.<\/p>\n The commemoration will take place near the Niceto P\u00e9rez National Monument Obelisk, in the El Silencio People’s Council area. It’ll also be a moment to acknowledge members, production units, cooperatives, and Guant\u00e1namo municipalities that have earned Vanguard status nationally and provincially, recognizing their exceptional performance in supporting the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) and contributing to Food Production Programs.<\/p>\n Kenia Alvarez, who\u2019s part of the Bureau of the Political and Mass Organization in Guant\u00e1namo, shared her congratulations with the press for all cooperative members and everyone who works the land.
