Guant\u00e1namo.- The Cuban Historian Association (UNHIC) and its provincial branch in Guant\u00e1namo are holding the Cuban Historian’s Day Celebrations from June 17 to July 31. This extensive program of activities is dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and dissemination of national and local history, with the participation of researchers, teachers, students, and community members.<\/p>\n
The opening program features an event at the “Fuerte Matach\u00edn” Municipal Museum in Baracoa, where the “Glories of Sport in Baracoa” gathering took place, dedicated to the memory of Luis Felipe Calder\u00f3n Blet, renowned coach of the Espectaculares Morenas del Caribe (Spectacular Caribbean Women’s Baseball Team), on the 17th anniversary of his death.<\/p>\n
During the session, preparations for the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the arrival of the Pan American Flame in Cuba were reviewed, as well as the progress of the publishing project on the glories and personalities of Cuban sports, the birthplace of several stars, from Mar\u00eda Caridad Col\u00f3n Ruenes, the first Latin American athlete to become an Olympic champion, to the promising young athlete Mar\u00eda Isabel Montero Paumier, the top assist girl in the professional basketball league and a member of the national pre-selection team.<\/p>\n
In Guant\u00e1namo, the historians’ program began on June 17 with the discussion “Ra\u00fal Castro: A Man in Revolution,” held at the “Manuel Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez” House of History, as a result of the joint work between UNHIC (National Union of Historians of Cuba) and the Provincial Center for Books and Literature. The program also includes book presentations, lectures, and forums for discussion on topics of historical and cultural interest.<\/p>\n

One of the most significant moments of the day will be the Provincial Main Event, scheduled for July 1st in Mais\u00ed, where national and provincial awards will be presented to researchers, historians, and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to the study, preservation, and dissemination of Cuban history.<\/p>\n
Among the distinguished entities is the \u201cFuerte Matach\u00edn\u201d Municipal Museum, in Cuba\u2019s First City, an institution that for decades has carried out commendable work in preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the region, establishing itself as a benchmark for research, heritage education, and the promotion of local historical memory.<\/p>\n
The day will conclude on July 31st in the municipality of El Salvador with the workshop \u201cEusebio Leal Spengler in Defense of History,\u201d a forum that will serve to reflect on the importance of historical research and recognize the commitment of those who, from different fields, contribute to safeguarding the identity and memory of the Cuban nation.<\/p>\n
