\"\"Guant\u00e1namo.- Seven delegates from Guant\u00e1namo were elected to the new National Council of Cuba’s Central Workers’ Union (CTC) during the organization’s Congress, which reaffirmed the trade union movement’s role in food production, social discipline, and the fight against crime and corruption.<\/p>\n

Juana\u00a0Eglis\u00a0Fern\u00e1ndez\u00a0Louit,\u00a0general\u00a0secretary\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0CTC\u00a0in\u00a0Guant\u00e1namo,\u00a0described\u00a0the\u00a0Congress\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0historic\u00a0and\u00a0significant\u00a0event\u00a0held\u00a0amid\u00a0the\u00a0country’s\u00a0complex\u00a0economic\u00a0situation,\u00a0highlighting\u00a0the\u00a0labor\u00a0movement’s\u00a0responsibility\u00a0to\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0economic\u00a0and\u00a0social\u00a0transformations\u00a0underway.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the Congress combined virtual sessions with in-person participation by members of the newly elected National Council, allowing delegates from all provinces to take part simultaneously.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Guant\u00e1namo,\u00a035\u00a0representatives\u00a0participated\u00a0via\u00a0videoconference\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0Provincial\u00a0Committee\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Communist\u00a0Party,\u00a0while\u00a0a\u00a0delegation\u00a0of\u00a0seven\u00a0attended\u00a0the\u00a0sessions\u00a0in\u00a0Havana.<\/p>\n

According\u00a0to\u00a0Fern\u00e1ndez\u00a0Louit,\u00a0delegates\u00a0approved\u00a0the\u00a0central\u00a0report,\u00a0reviewed\u00a0the\u00a0organization’s\u00a0financial\u00a0performance,\u00a0elected\u00a0the\u00a0new\u00a0National\u00a0Council,\u00a0and\u00a0discussed\u00a0implementation\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0country’s\u00a0economic\u00a0and\u00a0social\u00a0development\u00a0program\u00a0through\u00a02026.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0agenda\u00a0also\u00a0included\u00a0the\u00a0role\u00a0of\u00a0workers\u00a0in\u00a0national\u00a0defense,\u00a0government\u00a0management,\u00a0and\u00a0strengthening\u00a0community-based\u00a0initiatives.<\/p>\n

She stressed the importance of the government’s 176 economic measures, noting that they require better training for union leaders and greater worker participation in both their implementation and oversight.<\/p>\n

Fern\u00e1ndez\u00a0Louit\u00a0emphasized\u00a0that\u00a0workers’\u00a0assemblies\u00a0remain\u00a0the\u00a0union’s\u00a0primary\u00a0forum\u00a0for\u00a0addressing\u00a0concerns\u00a0raised\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0grassroots\u00a0level.<\/p>\n

The Congress was attended by Cuba’s top leadership, including Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic; Vice President Salvador Vald\u00e9s Mesa; and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, who exchanged views with delegates on the union movement’s contribution to the country’s economic and social development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
