{"id":16780,"date":"2026-07-03T10:13:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T14:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/?p=16780"},"modified":"2026-07-03T10:13:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T14:13:29","slug":"firefighting-efforts-continue-in-alejandro-de-humboldt-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/firefighting-efforts-continue-in-alejandro-de-humboldt-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighting Efforts Continue in Alejandro de Humboldt National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16781 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Incendio_.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"940\" height=\"672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Incendio_.jpeg 940w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Incendio_-300x214.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Incendio_-768x549.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/>Guantanamo.- Firefighting operations continue against a large wildfire affecting the Yarey, Ojito de Agua, and Farallones sectors of Alejandro de Humboldt National Park.<\/p>\n<p>Since June 27, the blaze has been battled by forest rangers from the provinces of Guant\u00e1namo and Holgu\u00edn, supported by personnel from the Ministry of the Interior, the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and approximately 50 representatives of Civil Defense, local government, and other institutions from the municipality of Yateras.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Jes\u00fas Mart\u00edn P\u00e9rez, the Guant\u00e1namo delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), the fire has affected approximately 600 hectares, most of which consist of scrubland and undergrowth, along with nearly 100 hectares of forest.<\/p>\n<p>Mart\u00edn P\u00e9rez explained, &#8220;the fire has been divided into three separate fronts, all of which are gradually being brought under control through coordinated firefighting operations advancing from the north toward the northeast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Authorities estimate that the wildfire could be fully extinguished by the weekend. Firefighters continue to establish firebreaks and remove combustible vegetation to prevent further spread.<\/p>\n<p>The nearby Jaguan\u00ed River, located approximately one kilometer from the affected area, is also expected to serve as a natural barrier.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
