\"\"Guantanamo.- A press conference for the 34th edition of the Book Fair announced that the event will take place in Guant\u00e1namo from September 4 to 6. This year\u2019s fair will be dedicated to the centennial of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz; the 80th birthday of Baracoan historian, author, and researcher Alejandro Hartmann Matos, recipient of the National Cultural Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award; and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Hermanos Sa\u00edz Association (AHS).<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Cecilia El\u00edas Guerra, director of El Mar y la Monta\u00f1a Publishing House, announced six new titles that the local publisher will present at this year\u2019s fair: “Interior Monologue” by Lisette Magalys;<\/span><\/span> \u201cThe Impossible Island and Other Women,\u201d by Carlos Esquivel;<\/span><\/span> \u201cGuant\u00e1namo: Dialogued Narrations,\u201d by Luis Morlote Ruiz; \u201cDream of Angels,\u201d by Guant\u00e1namo writer Ana Luz Garc\u00eda Calzada;<\/span><\/span> the poetry collection \u201cJanuary Moon,\u201d by Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Fraguela;<\/span><\/span> and \u201cThe First Invasion,\u201d by Pedro Pablo Rodr\u00edguez.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yuliet Heredia Su\u00e1rez, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, announced that this year\u2019s program will include a section devoted to Fidel Castro Ruz, commemorating the centennial of his birth. The section will feature presentations by specialists, researchers, and authors from the Guant\u00e1namo branch of the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC).<\/p>\n

In addition, the Olimpia Sports Bar will host a bibliographic exhibition showcasing literature and cultural materials from the Russian Federation, the guest of honor at the 34th Book Fair.<\/p>\n

As in previous years, the fair\u2019s main sales area will be located along Calixto Garc\u00eda Street, between Aguilera and Emilio Giro streets. Activities will also be held at the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC), the Ateneo Asdr\u00fabal L\u00f3pez Bookstore, the Ismaelillo Children\u2019s Play Center, the Major General Pedro Agust\u00edn P\u00e9rez House Museum, and the Provincial Center of Houses of Culture. Outreach activities will also take place in schools and community centers.<\/p>\n

The local branch of the Hermanos Sa\u00edz Association and the Cuba\u2013Russia Studies Chair at the University of Guant\u00e1namo, together with other cultural institutions, will contribute artistic, academic, and literary activities to the fair\u2019s program.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of this year\u2019s event will be the province\u2019s first-ever Booksellers\u2019 Workshop, to be held at the Regino E. Boti Public Library.<\/p>\n

The program will also include activities at the La Fama Literary Caf\u00e9 in the Ateneo Asdr\u00fabal L\u00f3pez Bookstore, as well as exhibitions and presentations of children\u2019s books.<\/p>\n

These activities will be complemented by performances and initiatives from La Colmenita Guant\u00e1namo, the “Artesaneando con Yeny” sociocultural project, the Teatro Gui\u00f1ol puppet theater group, and Compa\u00f1\u00eda Danza Libre.<\/p>\n

The fair will also feature the “Conquistando Lectores” (Cautivating Readers) cultural expeditions, which will bring literary activities to neighborhoods across the eastern city and to local schools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
