Guantanamo.- The provincial edition of the 34th Guant\u00e1namo Book Fair concluded with a ceremony held in the Aretusa Hall at the headquarters of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC).<\/p>\nGuantanamo.- The provincial edition of the 34th Guant\u00e1namo Book Fair concluded with a ceremony held in the Aretusa Hall at the headquarters of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC).<\/p>\n
During the event, the Provincial Center for Books and Literature paid tribute to Alejandro Hartman Matos, Historian of the City of Baracoa, to whom this year\u2019s fair was dedicated.<\/p>\n
Representatives of the Guant\u00e1namo branches of the Cuban Historians Association\u00a0 and the Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed Cultural Society, along with the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies of Health, also attended the ceremony. The council presented Hartman Matos\u2014recipient of the National Cultural Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award\u2014with a special distinction. The award was presented by Dr. Anselma Betancourt Puls\u00e1n, Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.<\/p>\n
The closing ceremony featured musical performances by the Guant\u00e1namo Guitar Orchestra, Russian folktale narrations by actor Ury Rodr\u00edguez Urgell\u00e9s, and choreographic presentations by students from the Alfredo Vel\u00e1zquez Carcas\u00e9s Professional Dance School.<\/p>\n
Liset P\u00e9rez Rosario, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guant\u00e1namo; Yoelvys Laba\u00f1ino L\u00f3pez, head of the provincial culture sector; and Yuliet Heredia Su\u00e1rez, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, presided over the ceremony.<\/p>\n
The event was also attended by the authors, artists, booksellers, historians, and literary promoters who participated in the 34th edition of the Book Fair, held across the province from September 4 to 6.<\/p>\n
