The disruption began when the 220-kilovolt transmission line linking the provinces of Matanzas and Cienfuegos tripped.<\/p>\n<p>This triggered a subsequent trip on the transmission line connecting Matanzas, in western Cuba, with the central province of Villa Clara. Unstable weather conditions in the area further complicated the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Cuba\u2019s power system has experienced eight nationwide blackouts in 2026. However, the situation has deteriorated in recent months, with prolonged outages and frequent interruptions attributed to fuel shortages.
