\"\"Guantanamo.- The 12th \u201cCl\u00e1sico del Guaso\u201d Domino Tournament\u2014one of Cuba\u2019s premier events and a qualifying competition for the World Domino Championship\u2014has begun in this city. Together with Santiago de Cuba, Guant\u00e1namo is considered one of the country\u2019s main strongholds for seven-tile dominoes.<\/p>\n

Traditionally held in November, this high-level tournament was brought forward to September 23\u201327 to accommodate the upcoming World Championship organized by FEMUNDO, the World Domino Federation, which will take place in the Dominican Republic from October 27\u201331.<\/p>\n

Fifty-six players are competing in the *Cl\u00e1sico*, including seven representatives of the Caribbean nation that will host the world championship. Five Cuban provinces are represented at the *Guaso* tournament: Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holgu\u00edn, Camag\u00fcey, and Guant\u00e1namo. The latter has four players who have qualified for the world championship: Olvis Rodr\u00edguez, Maikel Tab\u00edo, Yunior Esteban, and Amaury Londres.<\/p>\n

Through today, the competition will use the format known as \u201cLa Octava\u201d (\u201cThe Eighth\u201d). Under this format, each player competes in five individual matches, five matches with their regular partner, and five additional matches with different partners. This format will also be used at the World Championship, making practice during the Guant\u00e1namo *Cl\u00e1sico* particularly important.<\/p>\n

The pairs competition will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It will consist of 21 rounds, with each round lasting a maximum of 30 minutes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
