\"\"Guantanamo.- Cuban Culture Week officially began in Guant\u00e1namo with the \u201cSaturday Book\u201d event, held at its customary venue in Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed Park. Hosted by writer Yess Ram\u00edrez, the gathering featured researcher Jos\u00e9 S\u00e1nchez Guerra, who presented “Historia de una gesta libertadora 1952\u20131958” (History of a Liberation Struggle, 1952\u20131958), by author Georgina Leyva Pag\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Published under the Ciencias Sociales imprint of the Nuevo Milenio Publishing House, the book includes a foreword by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. It is structured in eleven chapters, beginning with an overview of Guant\u00e1namo. In its pages, Leyva Pag\u00e1n also recounts personal experiences shared with her life partner, Commander Julio Camacho Aguilera.<\/p>\n

As part of the week\u2019s program, the exhibition Abolici\u00f3n, Independencia e Historia (Abolition, Independence, and History) opened on October 10 at the Guant\u00e1namo Provincial Museum. The exhibition is sponsored by the local Heritage Center.<\/p>\n

To commemorate the 158th anniversary of the beginning of Cuba\u2019s independence struggles, Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed Park also hosted a special edition of Bajo la Ceiba (Under the Ceiba Tree). Organized by the Babul Folkloric Ballet, the event included guest performances by several local dance companies and artistic projects.<\/p>\n

The opening gala of Cuban Culture Week in Guant\u00e1namo will be held in the courtyard of the Provincial Museum at 7:00 p.m. Entitled Arte soy entre las Artes (I Am Art Among the Arts), the event is directed by L\u00e1zaro McPherson William and will feature local artists.<\/p>\n
