The alerts were launched by the National Institute of Animal Welfare (INBA)\u2019s authorities and the Sanitary Barriers Unit of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP).<\/p>\n

\u201c\u201dThese animals are not pets and should be in their habitat,\u201d\u201d INBA\u2019s president Marcia del Campo told El Observador newspaper.<\/p>\n

Among the hundreds of species confiscated in the last year are \u201ccompanion animals, production animals, exotic animals and wildlife,\u201d according to a statement from the institute.<\/p>\n

Del Campo warned that these animals end up in the illegal market after entering illegally through border points.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey suffer great stress, because sometimes they come from long distances and many times in unimaginable conditions to go unnoticed,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

He remarked that due to \u201csanitary issues\u201d they must go through a quarantine once captured, which adds extra stress. \u201cMany do not survive,\u201d the INBA president lamented.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
