{"id":8686,"date":"2024-07-20T07:07:31","date_gmt":"2024-07-20T11:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/?p=8686"},"modified":"2024-07-19T16:10:56","modified_gmt":"2024-07-19T20:10:56","slug":"unionists-in-california-demand-cubas-removal-from-terrorist-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/unionists-in-california-demand-cubas-removal-from-terrorist-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Unionists in California demand Cuba\u00b4s removal from terrorist list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8687\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/bloqueo-cuba-sola-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/bloqueo-cuba-sola-1-1.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/bloqueo-cuba-sola-1-1-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/>Guantanamo.- The representation in California of the largest labor union in the United States unanimously approved a resolution that demands the removal of Cuba from the list of States sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-36d6027 elementor-widget elementor-widget-post-info\" data-id=\"36d6027\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"post-info.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>On behalf of its almost 2.3 million members, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) in California \u201cstrongly urged the executive board\u201d of the union center to oppose this arbitrary designation of Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>It was also agreed that \u201cthe executive board of the national AFL-CIO send a copy of the resolution to President (of the United States) Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document was endorsed at the recent Convention, which saw the participation of more than 700 delegates, according to Mark Friedman, a member of the \u201cHands Off Cuba\u201d Committee in Los Angeles and the International Association of Machinists Local 1484, one of the groups that make up the AFL-CIO.<\/p>\n<p>The team that worked to pass this resolution, included Tom Brandon, leader of the California Machinists Conference; Bill Camp of Building Relations with Cuban Labor; leaders of IAM Local 1484, and activists from the Los Angeles Hands Off Cuba committee, Friedman said.<\/p>\n<p>The Convention also reflected \u201cthe changes taking place within the US labor movement, with greater numbers of young people and diversity representing many lower-paid workers now organizing across the state.\u201d Friedman stressed that a new wave of unionization, not seen since the end of World War II is taking place across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the International Union of Longshoremen and Warehousemena\u2019s similar important initiative approved by the convention, which donated $10,000 to the Global Health Partners campaign to purchase pacemakers for health institutions in Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>The recent event was preceded by the California Machinists\u2019 Conference, which represents some 17,000 employees, who endorsed a similar proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Edited by Liubis Balart<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guantanamo.- The representation in California of the largest labor union in the United States unanimously approved a resolution that demands the removal of Cuba from the list of States sponsors of terrorism.
