Guantanamo – The willingness to participate in the recovery of the territories affected by Hurricane Oscar was expressed by a group of university students and members of the Young Communists League (UJC) in the Guantanamo Province, during a meeting with Yoel Pérez García, the first secretary of the Party Committee in the eastern territory.

During the meeting, which was attended by Alis Azahares Torreblanca, provincial governor, and Idrialis González Turcaz, secretary of the youth political organization at the same level, the young people stressed the willingness to contribute to cleaning and rebuilding the homes; and carrying out recreational activities for the victims.

They also showed their solidarity with the western provinces of the country, affected by Hurricane Rafael, and assured that they were ready to contribute their forces in the areas affected by the meteorological phenomenon.

Yoel Pérez García, the top political leader in the Guantánamo Province, called on them to join these tasks as soon as possible and informed them about the progress of the economic recovery of the territory.

He assured that at present only 8 families remain in the evacuation centers, while more than 90 percent of the electric service was restored, and ten thousand mattresses were donated by the country to the victims.

He added that they are working intensively to recover the productive pole in the Caujerí Valley, located in the San Antonio del Sur Municipality, one of the most affected in agriculture; 78 percent of the telephone service was restored and of the 185 affected schools, only 23 did not restart the school year.
