Guantanamo.- On Monday, May 11, 2026, a vital meeting convened by the leading political and governmental authorities of the Guantánamo Province focused on critical issues including the transportation and restoration of damaged electrical transformers, water supply challenges, and commercial circulation within the province.

Joaquín Díaz Cantillo, General Director of the Guantánamo Electric Company, announced the commencement of repairs today for several transformers affected across the province. Restorations will take place in Baracoa (2 units), San Antonio del Sur (2 units), and El Salvador (1 unit). However, two transformers remain pending repair: one in La Tablilla community, Manuel Tames municipality, and another in Maguana, Baracoa.

Water supply continues to be a pressing concern, with extended disruptions reported in the Cabacú community (Baracoa) and the Boquerón and Glorieta areas within Caimanera municipality. As a temporary measure, water has been delivered via tanker trucks, though this is insufficient to meet demand. In Niceto Pérez, plans are underway to install a pumping motor once transportation is completed.

Commercial circulation in Guantánamo currently stands at 16 percent. Additionally, nine grocery stores in Baracoa remain without basic provisions, although there is adequate flour available for bread production across the province.

Waste collection in Guantánamo municipality, city sanitation efforts, and the ongoing issue of sewage affecting residents of the Reparto Obrero community were also addressed, with directives to expedite solutions to improve living conditions throughout the territory.
