The University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo (UCMGT, in Spanish) graduated this Saturday 193 basic nurses who studied for a year that academic offer approved by the National Directorate of Medical Teaching of the Ministry of Public Health.
The new graduation was dedicated to honoring the 70th anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada Barracks, in Santiago de Cuba, and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, in Bayamo, and the 95th birthday of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara.
In ceremony held at the Ibrahim Ganén Prats Theater of the UCMGT and its Branch in the Baracoa Municipality, the graduates committed to working for excellence in care services in primary health care and to continue their undergraduate studies during the meetings and courses the higher education center organizes
Valnis Rojas Matos was the best Nursing Technician graduate, and other graduates of the emerging course who work at the Doctor Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital, the Pedro Agustín Pérez Pediatric Hospital, and in care centers in the municipalities of El Salvador, Niceto Pérez, Yateras, San Antonio del Sur, Baracoa, Maisí and Manuel Tames were especially recognized.
Their diplomas of graduate and awards were delivered by Doctor Ana Margarita Sánchez Figueredo, dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Medicine student Beatriz Ramírez Denis, president of the University Student Federation (FEU) in the same instance.
Caridad Romero Barrientos, assistant professor and head of the Nursing program at the Guantanamo University, called on the new nurses to make the work projections a reality to improve the quality of life of the population, increase people’s satisfaction, and make the Public Health system efficient and sustainable to address their career development on a guaranteed basis.
