The 60th anniversary of the Cuban Medical Cooperation

The 60th anniversary of the Cuban Medical Cooperation was commemorated in Guantanamo, a humanitarian program in which 2,136 health professionals of the territory have rendered their service to 46 countries, mainly in Venezuela, Angola and Algeria.

In a cultural political act in the Aula Magna of the University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Nael Preval Campello, Provincial Director of Public Health, highlighted the imprint of the internationalists of this eastern province at the service of humanity, in nations in which they left their mark of love and dedication.

He especially mentioned the 400 Guantanamo collaborators who have offered their services in other countries as members of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, in complex scenarios such as taking contagious diseases such as Ebola, the serious aftermath of earthquakes, such as those in Pakistan and Turkey, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the presence of Madelexis Fernández Rivera, a member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, the heads of missions, doctors, nurses, technologists and service personnel were awarded with the Hazaña Laboral and Internationalist Worker medals.

Over these 60 years, 605,698 Cuban health collaborators rendered their services in 165 countries, representing an important support in this solidary work.
