Cuban Nurses

Guantanamo.- With its achievements in patient care, teaching, and scientific research, Guantánamo Province celebrates International Nurses Day, honoring the legacy of Victoria Brú Sánchez, a Guantánamo native who died while fighting an influenza epidemic in Cienfuegos Province.

The commemoration, which runs until June 3, recognizes the dedication of the province’s nurses amidst the country’s challenging economic situation and highlights their teaching, clinical, and research roles in clinics, polyclinics, and hospitals.

During the celebration, recognition will be given to those who are essential in disease prevention and the promotion of healthy habits, including the monitoring of pregnant women and infants under one year old as part of the Maternal and Child Health Program, and the care provided to cancer patients, kidney patients, children with chronic conditions, and others who receive the dedicated care of nurses.

The training and certification of nurses in various specialties will also be highlighted, as well as their crucial role in services such as Cardiology, Pediatric and Adult Intensive Care, Neonatology, and Perinatology, in addition to their work in immunizing different population segments.

Nurses in Guantánamo celebrate International Nurses Day with a renewed commitment to achieving Cuba’s Sustainable Development Goals for Public Health by 2030, which are aimed at ensuring the continued operation of programs that improve the quality of life for patients.
