Guantanamo.- Due to its agricultural potential, soil quality, and productive contribution, the municipality of El Salvador in Guantánamo Province was selected by Decree 143 of the Council of Ministers to participate in a national study focused on the development of agricultural production and its marketing.

In addition to the agricultural potential and productive contribution, El Salvador was also chosen because of its large flat areas equipped with guaranteed irrigation and mechanization systems, availability of stored water, fertile soils, and proximity to the city of Guantánamo, which has the largest population in the province.

Specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and the provincial delegation are advising the municipality on organizing the production process—ranging from contracting harvests with 100% of producers to structuring the marketing network—to ensure municipal supply and advance food sovereignty.

Céspedes Lobaina Arias, Deputy Delegate of Agriculture in the province, stated that the ultimate goal is to achieve a stable supply for markets, small shops, points of sale, and support for pregnant women, vulnerable groups, and social consumption programs.
