Guantanamo.- The Cannery, located in the Caujeri Valley, in San Antonio del Sur Municipality, in Guantanamo Province, is set to commence operations in the latter half of this month. Since late May, there has been a notable ripening of mangoes in the main town, which, while not abundant, is still significant enough to warrant the start of processing products.

Local producer Miguel Frometa reported that over 100 boxes of mangoes have been lost between his farm and his uncle’s, including the highly sought-after Corazón variety, ideal for compote.

This year, growers of the Corazón mango will receive payment in foreign currency due to its premium quality for juice and compote production.

As the peak ripening season approaches in Puriales and the Caujeri Valley, the Cannery is prepared to begin processing products. Olider Mendez, the Unit’s director, confirmed that all necessary containers are ready for the upcoming operations.
