Guantanamo.- A university advisory project is being promoted in the municipality of Manuel Tames to support the implementation of 176 economic and social transformation initiatives in the area.
Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guantánamo, led a meeting with students and professors from the local university center. He was accompanied by political and government officials, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education.
During the meeting, the province’s top political leader outlined the project’s objectives and scope, calling on young people to commit to the initiative and contribute their knowledge to addressing the area’s most pressing needs.
Participants also identified underutilized strengths and opportunities in Manuel Tames, including the potential for nature tourism in the community of La Ranchería, in La Caridad de los Indios, and at the Stone Zoo in Alto de Boquerón, part of the Honduras People’s Council. The latter is considered unique in the world.

The meeting underscored the importance of integrating university expertise into local development strategies and encouraging greater youth participation in the municipality’s economic and social transformation.
The initiative will enable new generations of university students to contribute ideas, insights, and proposals aimed at promoting local development and building a prosperous and sustainable municipality.
