In the community of Punta de Maisí, in Guantanamo Province, work is being done to transform the problems that most affect residents in the area, such as the supply of drinking water, the construction and legalization of housing, the stable supply of agricultural products and the provision of different basic services to the population.

The government program includes the checking of actions carry out in that region located in the easternmost end of Cuba, where 1,678 inhabitants reside, as the premise of the visit made to the territory by Rafael Pérez Fernández, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of the organization in the Guantanamo Province, and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, Governor at the same level, along with provincial and municipal directors.

The tour began in the population settlement Limones, where 75 petrohouses were built for the victims after the effects of Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.

After observing the remodeling of the tank, the water cistern and the hydraulic networks that will supply water to the homes, the highest territorial authorities addressed complaints, problems and concerns of the population, related to the stability in the service of the fresh water, the distribution of bread and the presence of agricultural products in state markets.

Despite the harsh drought in Punta de Maisí, it is intended to increase the number of hectares planted for food production, as well as to resume the livestock plan that existed in the 90s of the last century.

This was seen in the “La Laguna” dairy, belonging to the municipal agroforestry company, which works to increase the cattle breeding, with its corresponding areas for animal feed and the necessary water.

The children’s house, with four classrooms and 15 capacities to care for preschool-age infants, children of working mothers from the enterprise and the community, is nearly to be completed.

During the exchange in Punta de Maisí, the government delegation agreed to continue actions to reduce the number of people unemployed, improve the water supply, the stable operation of the desalination plant, achieve better use of renewable energies and increase telephone coverage and others services to the population.
