From November 13 to 17, experts of the National Accreditation Board carry out the institutional accreditation process for the University of Guantanamo (UG), at the request of this prestigious Higher Education center in Cuba´s easternmost territory.
The delegation made up of Doctor of Science Marcia Esther Noda Hernández, National Director of the Evaluation Board, will check the strengths and weaknesses of the UG. They also plan to exchange with students and teachers, will carry out knowledge tests, and visit municipal headquarters, as part of the institutional external evaluation to improve the quality management of this center.
During five days, the experts will also check the preparation of the teaching staff and the students’ contributions to local development. They will also take into account the university´s infrastructure situation, combining human and technological resources, in order to enhance training with quality of university students enrolled in 7 faculties.
During the opening, Rector Osiris Aranda Creagh presented to the experts the main achievements in the academic and research fields, as well as sociocultural and local development projects.
The University of Guantanamo with 11 accredited programs, two of them with the category of Excellence, Agronomy and Physical Culture, requests the National Accreditation Board for an institutional evaluation with a view to this House of Science and Progress gaining local, national and international visibility.
Institutional accreditation is a strategic objective for the national and international recognition of the quality of Higher Education and bases the continuous management of its substantive processes. It also enables the academic mobility of university students from other countries.
The commission headed by Dr. Marcia Esther Noda, executive secretary of the Board, was received by the main authorities of the party and the government in the easternmost province of Cuba.
