More than 87 000 students of different teachings will attend the classrooms in Guantanamo on Monday, September 2, for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, in 887 schools spread across the province.

Raquel Laviste Villafruela, director of Education in the territory, said that students are guaranteed, at least, the essential resources such as: pencils, textbooks, workbooks, erasers, watercolors and notebooks, the latter to be completed as they are distributed to schools.

This eastern province has more than eleven thousand teachers and specialists, in charge of raising the quality of the teaching-educational process, as a top priority, which implies the acquisition of knowledge, the development of skills and the strengthening of values ​​in students.

Laviste Villafruela also said that the school year’s priorities will be to improve the English language in students and teachers, the improvement of teachers, political-ideological work, as well as the digital skills of students and teachers in order to increase the fight against cultural colonization.

She also said that during July and August the sector carried out repair and maintenance actions in several schools, especially in the municipalities of Baracoa, Imías, Yateras, Guantanamo and Caimanera, with the purpose of improving the infrastructure of the centers.

In Guantanamo, the central event for the start of the 2024-2025 school year will take place on September 2 at the Carlos Ulloa Arauz elementary school, pertaining to the municipality of Caimanera, a school that will show a new image after remodeling actions.
