Guantanamo. On September 1, the rural community of Banito, in the municipality of El Salvador, marked a historic occasion with the inauguration of an annex to the Senén Casas Regueiro Basic Secondary School.
The project, long requested by parents in the Carrera Larga settlement, eliminates the daily commute undertaken by more than 300 students to Sempré. It also fulfills a commitment made by the Party, the Government, and the Municipal Education Directorate.
In a collective celebration involving students, parents, and teachers, nine classrooms were officially opened to serve 326 students enrolled in basic secondary, pre-university, and technical-professional education.
Students from the various educational levels brought the new facility to life, becoming part of the territory’s educational system.
The opening ceremony was attended by the municipality’s highest political and government authorities, who joined students, parents, and teachers in a festive and joyful atmosphere.
During a tour of the facilities, the authorities observed the students’ enthusiasm and the teaching staff’s dedication. They also heard firsthand about the needs that still require attention.
Although the annex requires further investment, it already represents significant relief for local families. Previously, students had to wake up early to travel long distances, delays frequently affected the start of classes, and, most importantly, the journey exposed minors to dangers along the road.
The new infrastructure has also been inaugurated amid fuel shortages, which have increased transportation costs and reduced its availability. The school’s proximity therefore provides both logistical and economic relief for dozens of families.
With the opening of these classrooms, Banito has been added to the educational map of the municipality of El Salvador. The project reaffirms the principle that education must reach every corner of the country, regardless of how remote it may be.
The challenge now is to consolidate this facility, which, since September 1, has already become a center of knowledge and opportunity for the community.
