Guantanamo- The Provincial Directorate of the Bank of Credit and Commerce (BANDEC) in Guantánamo Province has confirmed that pension check payments for August will commence on August 18, following the usual schedule, and will continue through early September. A prioritized five-day service window will begin next Tuesday to facilitate this process.

Júder Ortiz González, BANDEC’s deputy accounting director, also announced ongoing efforts to contract local economic actors as authorized financial agents. This initiative aims to enable retirees to receive cash payments directly at participating business establishments, enhancing convenience and reducing long wait times at bank branches.

While participation by these economic actors is voluntary, the director emphasized the social responsibility involved, highlighting the benefits of bringing payment services closer to communities. This approach seeks to minimize travel and waiting periods for pensioners.

Ortiz González outlined incentives for businesses joining the program, including financial bonuses per transaction, priority banking services, expedited loan processing, and preferential access to cash resources for their operations—contingent upon liquidity assessments.

This measure supports broader goals under the 176 economic and social reforms approved by the National Assembly of People’s Power in June, modernizing Cuba’s banking system by integrating both state-owned and private entities as banking agents.

Although the contracting process is ongoing and the number of participating businesses remains unspecified, check payments will continue as the primary pension disbursement method for retirees in Guantánamo during this transition period.
