Nearly 2 thousand titles and over 60 thousand copies are being sold in Guantanamo in the 32nd International Book Fair, which in the province honors writer Ana Luz García Calzada, among the highest literary exponents of the territory in contemporary times.

The book festival, to be extended until next Sunday, shows the best of Cuban and universal literature on Calixto García Street, in the colonial core of Guantanamo city as well as in cultural institutions.

Other venues are the headquarters of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists, the Pedro A. Pérez Museum, the Regino Eladio Boti Art Center, the Rubén López Sabariego House of Culture, La Indiana Cafe, the Salcines Gallery, the La Guantanamera Cultural Center, the Improvement Center for Culture; the Provincial Museum, and José Martí Park.

The Fair program also reaches communities in transformation, health facilities, and the Children´s Hospital, as part of intersectoral alliances for the promotion of reading and culture in general.

Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Party in the province; Alis Azahares Torreblanca, governor, and directors of the Culture sector and the Provincial Book Center, attended the opening gala of the literary festival that also honors the Federative Republic of Brazil, guest of honor country; to Isabel Monal, National Prize for Social and Humanistic Sciences, and to writer and professor Francisco López Sacha.
