The Ministry of Defense of China called on the Pentagon to explore ways to coexist under the principles of peace, stability, and mutual trust.

According to the official account of the Defense Ministry on the WeChat social site, Minister of Defense Dong Jun held a videoconference with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin.

The Chinese authority called to build military relations that are neither conflicting nor confrontational, but rather are open, pragmatic, and based on the gradual accumulation of trust. He also highlighted the importance of these links for stability in the development of the relations of both countries.

In addition, Dong Jun emphasized that the Taiwan issue is of utmost importance for China’s fundamental interests, which must not be compromised in any way. He also reiterated that the Popular Liberation Army will never allow separatist activities, nor will it tolerate exterior support or indulgence towards this matter.

Regarding the situation in the South China Sea, he stressed that it is generally stable, and that the countries of the region have the will, the wisdom, and the capability to solve problems.

The Chinese Defense Ministry called on the United States to recognize China’s position and respect China’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
