The small hydroelectric plant (PCHE) Mártires de Girón, or Guaso, as this unit managed by the Renewable Energy Sources Enterprise of Guantánamo is also known, received the 2023 Provincial Award for Built Heritage in the Conservation category, granted by the Office of Monuments and Historical Sites of the territory.

Built in 1917, this plant is an exponent of Cuban industrial heritage and becomes a symbol of generation, being the first set up in the country to obtain electricity through hydraulic turbines.

At the event, the the specialists of the Office of Monuments and Historic Sites, of Guantanamo, also presented the files of the institutions nominated for the 2024 National Built Heritage Award, of which the Episcopal Church of All Saints was nominated, in the restoration category, and the Printing Press of the territory, in conservation category, both for preserving these buildings that stand out within the local architecture.
