Guantanamo.- The La Tagua People’s Council hosted the official launch of the coffee harvest season in the municipality of Manuel Tames, with producers aiming to collect approximately 20,000 cans of the exportable crop.
Farmers from Guantánamo’s main coffee-growing area reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that not a single bean is lost during a season expected to yield less than the previous year’s harvest. The decline is attributed to damage Hurricane Melissa caused to coffee plantations.
Coinciding with the launch, a store opened to provide coffee producers with food and essential supplies payable in foreign currency.
The initiative was warmly welcomed by the men and women working in the municipality’s most remote areas and is expected to encourage greater efforts toward meeting individual and collective production targets.
Representatives of the Party, the government, and the Alto Serra coffee company attended the event, along with presidents and farmers from the various production units involved in harvesting the 20,000 cans of coffee.
