Guantanamo.- On Sunday night at 10:43 p.m., Cuba suffered another total disconnection of its National Electrical System (SEN), according to reports from the Electric Union’s social media channels.
This event followed a partial blackout in western Cuba the previous day caused by simultaneous trips in the 220 kV transmission lines linking Matanzas to Cienfuegos and Matanzas to Santa Clara. These faults resulted in a division of the SEN and power outages affecting the western region.
The National Electric Union (UNE) is currently executing system restoration protocols to stabilize and recover the grid. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines’ latest updates on Facebook, several power generation units are either starting up or prepared to begin operations as soon as conditions permit:
– Units 1 and 2 at CTE Santa Cruz
– Units 5 and 8 at CTE Mariel
– Unit 3 at CTE Céspedes
Units ready to start once conditions are favorable:
– Unit 6 at CTE Nuevitas
– Unit 1 at Felton
– CTE Guiteras
