The 4th issue of the regional student scientific event on Medical Sciences Mediguaso 2023, will be held in Guantanamo from September 28 to October 2 at the University of Medical Sciences (UCM), in this province, with the aim of promoting exchange between teachers and students of different specialties, in addition to socializing experiences, results and impacts of research on Health in Cuba.
Denisse Hinojosa Ramos, secretary of communication of the University Student Federation (FEU) of the local UCM, said to Venceremos that this time more than 50 participants are expected, including 20 foreign delegates and a representation of the FEU´s national secretariat.
Regarding the thematic thrusts of the presentations, Hinojosa said that they will reflect on the comprehensive health care for children, adolescents, adults, pregnant women and the elderly, diagnostic, clinical, surgical and emergency services, the approach to cancer, communicable diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases, as well as ethics and communication.
There will also be proposals on the functioning of the health system in times of disasters, the training and progress of resources, the use of natural and traditional medicine (MNT), sexuality and gender equity in Health, the management of new technologies of information and knowledge in the realm of education and medical practice.
Hinojosa Ramos also said that for the students’ improvement, four pre-event courses will also be held: two in the clinical area and two in MNT, and the event includes an intergenerational meeting with professors who have had direct link with the organization or the students.
After four years without being held in person, MediGuaso will operate in hybrid mode with virtual salons that, like the physical ones, will reward the best works that demonstrate the doctors´ insight and their concerns regarding their profession.
The event is dedicated this year to the centenary of the University Student Federation, the anniversary of the Young Communist League, the 44 years of beginning the Medical Teaching in Guantanamo and the three years of the Student Medical Gazette.
