Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, visited the Guantanamo municipality of Baracoa today, as part of his journeys through all the country’s territories aiming to evaluating control to the 2023 commitments and the nation’s strategy to correct distortions and re-boost the economy.

The Cuban president’s tour in the first Cuban city began with the Cocoa Manufactoring Center, where he exchanged with workers regarding working conditions, production process and investments aimed at renewing the industry.

Díaz-Canel’s second stop in Baracoa was at the Guamá Oil Extracting Factory, pertaining to the Agroforestry Company. There he stressed on the importance of strengthening the coconut production chain and was interested in the general functioning of the industry, its productive lines, availability of raw materials, workers’ salaries among other topics of interest.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba also arrived at the Baramar Base business enterprise, where he knew about the fulfillment of the fishing plans and the alternatives that implemented based on the food program, whose strength is the exportation of eels and typical fishing.

When pointing out the main Baracoa residents´ concerns, he highlighted the need to recover the Moa-Baracoa highway, an essential link for the transfer of food and other supplies to this territory and Maisí.

During his stay in Baracoa, the President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez also referred to other issues that deserve special attention such as the pending homes due to weather effects, including the devastating hurricane Matthew, the care of buildings and other properties and state institutions with salt-resistant materials.
