Guantanamo.- The 2025-2026 school year began on Monday in Baracoa with more than 12,000 students in attendance, represented by teachers at the municipal ceremony held at the Perucho Figueredo Special School.
The Caribbean island’s largest cultural celebration every September brought the joy that came from children at the aforementioned school, a demonstration of civic spirit and Cuban spirit, and the artistry of children who naturally and talentedly enlivened the celebration.
The event was completed with the attendance of teachers and parents, who, aware of their educational role, had contributed days before to the cleaning and beautifying the center with flags, paintings, banners, and posters alluding to the date, as well as other decorations creating a festive atmosphere.
On behalf of Baracoa’s students, a pioneer spoke out and thanked the Cuban Revolution for opening 129 schools in this territory so that every child has a safe place to learn.
Meanwhile, Yurleidis Aguirre Trutié, Municipal Director of Education, expressed the commitment of local teachers to the comprehensive education and development of students.
She also called on families and the community to work together to support their children in their studies, as well as to create spaces and environments where respect, responsibility, and love reign.
Dance, poetry, and songs enlivened the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year in the First Village of Cuba, which included the participation of Omar Estrada Soto, Coordinator of Programs and Objectives of the Provincial Administration Council; Roeldis Ramos Tomacén, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Baracoa; and other regional authorities.
