
Activities honoring teachers in Guantanamo was distinguished by the giving of decorations to pedagogues with an outstanding labor, and the recognition of literacy teachers and founders of the Education sector, a tribute that began last November 15 until December 22, the date in Cuba was declared an Illiteracy Free Territory in 1961.
The Provincial Education Union in the easternmost province of Cuba also promotes multiple activities to praise the work of educators, including class festivals, meetings with literacy teachers and students from pedagogical schools, exhibitions of children´s interest clubs,
among other initiatives that reflect the educational work of the territory.
In the more than 800 schools in Guantanamo, cultural galas, agricultural and industrial fairs, domino, chess and baseball competitions are also scheduled, among other initiatives to recognize the more than 29 thousand teachers and workers of the Education, Science and Sports Union in the territory.
Every December 22, educators are honored in memory of the year 1961, when the Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro announced the culmination of the Literacy Campaign, and proclaimed a Territory Free of Illiteracy.
