Experts of the National Accreditation Board (JAN) of the Ministry of Higher Education in Cuba began an external evaluation of the Speech Therapy career at the University of Guantanamo, an exercise that aims to examine the training of these professionals to receive an accreditation category and will run from September 18 to 22.
The evaluation process includes integrative exams for students and exchanges with them, visits to teaching units and employer centers, to learn about the level of satisfaction with the preparation of the graduates and their performance.
The external evaluation analyzes the variables: Suitability and Social Impact, Teaching Staff and Teaching Support Personnel, Students, Infrastructure and Curriculum;
and during the evaluation, the experts check the strengths and weaknesses raised in the self-evaluation report, corresponding to the 2018-2022 stage
Evaluators in charge come from the Universities of Ciego de Ávila, Holguín, Bayamo and Oriente, who were received by authorities of the Guantanamo House of Science and Progress, headed by the acting rector, Dr.C.
Alina Cantillo, as well as a representation of students and professors of the course.
In the 2006-2007 school year, the Bachelor of Speech Therapy carrier opened at the academic institution (which has the Certificate category granted by the JAN since 2016). It responds to the solution of communication and language problems of adolescents, children and
young people. It currently has an enrollment of 77 students in the day course and in the last five years, a period that is evaluated, it has graduated 75 professionals.
This year, the University of Guantanamo celebrated the evaluative results of one of its undergraduate and graduate training programs, such as the Specialty in Psychopedagogical Teaching, which achieved the category of Excellence, the Master’s Degree in Accounting, evaluated as Certified, and the Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Culture that also obtained Excellence category.
