Guantanamo.- Over 600 first-year students in the full-time program at the Guantánamo University of Medical Sciences are set to become members of the University Student Federation (FEU), Cuba’s oldest youth organization, on Wednesday, September 30.

The induction ceremony will be held at José Antonio Echeverría Plaza, where Silvio Eneider Cuevas de la Cruz, a nursing student and the university’s FEU president, will extend a warm welcome to the newcomers.

The event will feature the signing of the membership registry and the distribution of FEU membership cards, a formal process overseen by university officials, faculty, and student leaders.

The ceremony will honor the legacy of FEU heroes and martyrs through a traditional roll call, paying tribute to figures such as Julio Antonio Mella and Frank País García, who sacrificed their lives for revolutionary ideals.

Additionally, the gathering will commemorate the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth, the 158th anniversary of the War of Independence’s commencement, and the launch of the Camilo-Che ideological campaign.

The FEU brigades at the university are actively engaged in community service, focusing on elderly care, disease prevention, health promotion, and collaboration with local hospitals and primary healthcare centers.
