Guantanamo.- The second edition of the “A Son for Lilí” Festival commenced at the Artex Cultural Center, Casa de la Trova Benito Odio in Guantánamo, featuring the launch of the book “The Man and His Music: Luis Martínez Griñán.”
This presentation was led by music researcher Ramón Gómez Blanco, one of the authors, alongside cultural promoter Adelaida Gómez Blanco.
Running from August 28 to 30 and organized by the Lilí Martínez Griñán Provincial Music Center, the festival honors the artistic contributions of the renowned pianist and composer from Guantánamo, celebrated globally as the Pearl of the East or the Classic of Son.
The cultural program includes theoretical discussions, concerts, and son jam sessions at the Casa de la Trova Benito Odio.
The opening festivities featured performances by the traditional septet “Universales del Son” and the group Caverchelo.comb, along with soloists Yaneisi Oquendo and Alexis Aguilera from the Lilí Martínez Griñán Provincial Music Center. During the event, percussionist Adalberto Suárez Subirot, who also directs the Guantánamo Provincial Music Center, paid tribute to Lilí Martínez Griñán.
Notable attendees included maestros Lisania González Rojas, Jesús Fernández Alfonso, and Conrado Monier, as well as directors from local ensembles like Changüí Guantánamo.
