Guantanamo.- Sports education in the province of Guantánamo will begin the 2026-2027 school year on September 1st with in-person instruction and decentralization as fundamental pillars, key strategies to guarantee the training of future athletes and students in the territory.
Starting September 1st, a total of 2,708 schools will implement in-person instruction and a decentralized approach, which are essential strategies aimed at nurturing future athletes and students in the region.
The Physical Education Teacher Training School (EPEF) will accommodate 146 students in a concentrated format, accounting for 68 percent of its total enrollment. Priority will be given to first-year students and those from the provincial capital, while the remaining students will receive education through their local communities.
Reyneiro Navarro Torres, the EPEF director, emphasized that each municipality will have a team of certified sports instructors to deliver specialized subjects, alongside general education courses provided by the broader educational system.
The Sports Integration School (EIDE) will enroll 800 students across ten municipalities, with 438 from the provincial capital and 362 from other areas. It will feature two annexes: one at the Sports City complex and another in Caimanera, focusing on canoeing, rowing, and sailing. The main campus will prioritize strategic sports such as boxing, judo, wrestling, and weightlifting, along with local favorites like baseball, chess, and soccer.
