Guantánamo – The Pioneer Parade, as well as the award ceremonies for retirees and outstanding educators, are among the main activities held by the education sector in Guantánamo to celebrate May Day, International Workers’ Day.

Ada Luz Benítez Mayet, a member of the provincial secretariat of the Union of Education, Science, and Sports Workers (SNTECD), told CMKS that the municipal events also include recognitions for union leaders with five, 10, and 15 years of service, as well as intergenerational meetings with volunteer teachers, literacy teachers, and Heroines of Labor.

The assembly area was also decorated with propaganda alluding to the Bay of Pigs victory, in addition to holding sports festivals, volunteer work, and competitions, among other initiatives, in schools, Benítez Mayet added.

Under the slogan “For Cuba, Unity, and Commitment,” next Thursday, May 1st, more than 29,000 education workers and their families will march through Mariana Grajales Plaza, once again reaffirming their commitment to the Cuban Revolution and its top political and union leaders.

In Guantanamo, the Education, Science, and Sports Union has more than 29,000 members from 694 union branches, of whom 1,698 are retirees and 28,885 are active workers.
