Guantanamo.- The Guantánamo education system distinguishes itself nationally by obtaining 145 gold, silver, and bronze medals in national knowledge competitions, sixty-six more than last year. This important achievement was recognized at the closing ceremony of the school year, presided over by Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party in the province.

Raquel Laviste Villafruela, Provincial Director of Education, during her keynote speech at the event, emphasized that the sector also stood out nationally for the creation of 39 children’s house and the upcoming inauguration of four more in the municipalities of San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, and Caimanera. These projects will be presented to mark the 26th of July.

Likewise, the Master of Sciences highlighted that the educational sector in Guantánamo achieved first place this academic year at the 2025 International Congress on Pedagogy with the best Information and Communication Stand. It also excelled at national scientific society events, earning four awards for the promotion of good teaching practices, among other achievements.

During the closing ceremony, a group of prominent educators in the sector were awarded the Frank País Order, Second Grade, the José Tey Medal, and the Distinction for Cuban Education, the latter awarded by the Minister of Education, in recognition of their work and revolutionary trajectory.

In addition, the Labor Achievement medal was awarded to Josué Moreno and Luz Hernández, municipal directors in Yateras and Guantánamo, Yoendris Ramírez, Head of Pre-University Education, and Raquel Laviste Villafruela, the highest representative of the sector in the territory.

The presentation of these awards and the well-deserved recognition of the highest levels of teaching, municipalities, and teachers concluded the 2024-2025 academic year in the upper east of Cuba thanks to the collective effort during this school year, which has yielded excellent results for education in Guantánamo.
