Some 14 primary schools in Guantánamo were selected to implement the educational assessment corresponding to the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE 2025), to be conducted throughout Cuba on May 30 and 31.

The exam, now in its fifth edition, led by UNESCO’s Latin American Laboratory for the Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE).

According to Maricel Rodríguez, provincial methodologist for Primary Education, the ERCE comes at a time when all general education institutions are implementing the Third Education Improvement Process, with the goal of raising the quality of learning for children and adolescents, with special emphasis on the early grades.

She also said that this exercise will measure the learning level of more than 1,000 third- and sixth-grade students in skills such as writing, text comprehension, mathematical calculations, and knowledge of natural sciences.

During the fifth Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE), promoted by UNESCO, Cuba is joining 19 other countries from the region in this important study, which assesses students’ learning outcomes and socio-emotional skills.
