Guantanamo.- Guantánamo is set to host the 11th Maceo-Themed Radio Symposium, organized by the provincial station CMKS (Radio Trinchera Antimperialista) and CMDX (La Voz del Toa, in Baracoa). This inaugural scientific and professional event aims to foster research and the development of radio content in Cuba, emphasizing the rich history of the largest island in the Antilles.

According to Marielis Fuentes, the provincial deputy director of programming and information for the Guantánamo radio network, the symposium will occur from October 20 to 22. It will gather creators and researchers nationwide to explore and promote the historical significance of the Maceo-Grajales family.

The event will include a theoretical component and showcase around twenty entries competing for the prestigious “Bronze Titan” (Titán de Bronce) Award, along with accolades for Best Children’s and Youth Production and other special prizes.

Key activities will feature a floral tribute at Mariana Grajales Plaza, a visit to the Border Brigade Headquarters, and tours of Playitas de Cajobabo and the Imías Museum. In Baracoa, participants will engage in discussions with the city historian and visit local historical landmarks.

The theoretical sessions, entry presentations, and awards ceremony will take place in Baracoa, where Guantánamo radio stations will compete with two dramatized programs and two radio features.

This year’s symposium also commemorates significant anniversaries, including the 130th anniversary of the “Invasion of the West” (Invasión a Occidente) and the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s birth.
