Guantanamo.- Recent criminal activities at provincial entities in Guantánamo highlight a significant deficiency in asset protection and oversight. This pressing issue necessitates an immediate enhancement of surveillance and control measures, which was a focal point during the daily meeting addressing the region’s economic and social vitality.

Operational reviews have uncovered alarming incidents, including the theft of perimeter fencing and equipment from photovoltaic parks, as well as the unlawful slaughter of livestock.

Notably, the meeting underscored the theft of solar panels from the Jamaica funeral home and a large quantity of mattresses from the University of Medical Sciences, an incident that involved a cargo vehicle for transport.

These occurrences prompt critical inquiries about the effectiveness of current security measures and the accountability of on-duty personnel. In response, Guantánamo Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca urged for enhanced surveillance, the elimination of underlying causes for these crimes, and the replacement of stolen assets that benefit the public.

Additionally, the meeting addressed various operational challenges, including commercial circulation shortfalls and essential infrastructure investments, while also highlighting the upcoming pension payments set to commence on October 13.
