IPVCE de Guantánamo incentiva la formación de estudiantes talentosNinth grade students in Guantanamo, who stand out for their results in knowledge competitions of different subjects, are benefited with the national strategy for talented students that is closely monitored by Education in Cuba.

The José Maceo Grajales Vocational High School Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE, in Spanish abbreviation), of the province, enrolled 54 students with highest proficiency in ordinary tests and winners in national and provincial competitions, in view of improving their knowledge, skills and attitudes through training.

Professor Pedro Soto Martínez, coordinator of the project, pointed out:

“Since the beginning it has an impact by the level of preparation of the students and their teachers. Here they have an independent area that includes two classrooms, departments, places for their training, they also prepare in the training center, they can use the laboratories for their comprehensive training according to their curriculum and they are fully attended by 10 teachers from the project”, the teacher and coordinator, said.

He also explained that schoolchildren who are in their ninth grade at IPVCE will have the opportunity to directly enroll in this institution, without having to take the entrance exams, as long as they meet the requirements and the passing score required

“The intention is that they have a better preparation for their presentation to the knowledge competition and in their training as future scientists, in tune with the Millennium Objectives”, Pedro Soto Martínez, pointed out.

He also specified that the Guantánamo IPVCE Competition Training Center is recognized for its results -both nationally and internationally- and directs its actions to position students in the different student’s teams to represent Cuba in various competitions, both in the country and in aboard.

With good acceptance by both students and families, the new teaching modules specialized in the field of science, is aimed at talented students from 17 high schools in the province.

The syllabus is in accordance with the high schools model and, at the same time, includes a complementary program in the subjects in which they will compete, and it also guarantees the teaching aids.][/
