Guantanamo.- Under the slogan “The Homeland Defends Itself,” the general secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) in Guantánamo, Juana Eglis Fernández Louit, launched the official campaign for the celebration of the May Day parade, dedicated this year to the centennial of Fidel Castro’s birth.

From the headquarters of the Provincial Flora and Fauna Company, alongside a group of its workers and the local union, Fernández Louit read the call and urged participants to demonstrate the unity of the Cuban people and to invoke the ideals of justice and sovereignty.

The May Day will encourage the active participation of workers despite the difficulties arising, among other causes, from the measures imposed by the United States in its ongoing hostility toward Cuba.

As part of the preliminary activities, volunteers are being called for to support the construction of the El Algarrobo photovoltaic park and the provincial organic farms, with the aim of increasing food production. The unions will also participate in blood drives, and on April 18th, a walk will be held, followed by a major sporting event featuring dominoes and gymnastic competitions.

On April 29th, at 8:30 a.m., Pioneers and young people will march along Pedro A. Pérez Street to the House of Culture, as a prelude to the main workers’ parade. That same afternoon, La Colmenita will present a gala performance at the Huambo Cultural Center.
