Guantanamo.- Luis Miguel Romero Mansfarrol, nicknamed “Oshín,” a pitcher from Guantanamo and a member of the Leones de Caracas, returns to the Cuban National Baseball Team, this time to participate in the VI World Baseball Classic that will take place from March 3 to 17.

According to the Cuban Baseball Federation, the right-handed pitcher, a native of the municipality of Manuel Tames, is part of a roster comprised of two catchers, seven infielders, five outfielders, and 16 pitchers.

Luis Miguel was Cuba’s most outstanding pitcher in the V Classic, in which he is considered the “secret weapon” of the Cuban pitching team, having contributed to all three victories, two of which he personally won.

He is one of the key figures in the resurgence and competitive comeback of the team known as TeamAsere. As a relief pitcher, the Guantanamo native selects his pitches well for each batter.

Capable of touching 90mph, and throwing sliders are among his best attributes; but Oshin’s success is driven by his control in baseball pitching, he exactly put the ball where he wants.

The star from Manuel Tames leads the tournament in strikeouts (13), wins (2), and games pitched (5). With a 2.08 ERA, he was also among the leaders in innings pitched with 8 2/3.

In the V World Baseball Classic, only 18 pitchers have fewer than one walk and one hit per inning, and one of them is Romero, who is one of the least hit-by-pitches with a .219 batting average.

However, the Cuban pitcher who is least hit by opponents is Yariel Rodríguez from Camagüey, with a .200 average, and another Guantánamo native, Roenni Elías, is also on that list (.229).
