Guantanamo will celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5, with outstanding results from the implementation of the environmental strategy comprising the 2020-2025 period and the joint efforts between entities and organizations, in favor of the attention of natural resources, ecosystems and the environment in general.

The prize given by the Cuban Academy of Science to the Center for Technological Applications for Sustainable Development (CATEDES) and to the local branch for Science, Technology and Environment in the eastern province, figure among the recognitions that praise their results.

This was recognized by Jesús Martín Pérez, head of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment in Guantanamo, who also valued the importance of the work done in this types of researches which ranks the province as one of the best.

Likewise, he pointed out that this is one of the territories that stands out in the work on agroecological environmental policy, based on studies and the use of sustainable practices with the environment, in relation with the different bodies.

He also highlighted the conservation of Guantanamo´s natural values, such as the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a World Heritage Site and the fundamental core of the Cuchillas del Toa Biosphere Reserve, whose results should be extended to other protected areas.

The province has 21 science, technology and innovation projects, which have an environmental component, aimed at preserving the environment, as part of the unavoidable approach to conceive all integrated processes.
